"If it's to be, then it's up to me."

There is no doubt that having support from friends, family, coaches and medical practitioners can be helpful when it comes to healing from these illnesses. It is particularly useful to have someone alongside you who has the knowledge of the illness and is able to challenge and support appropriately. For me, that was my wife.

However, significant, sustained progress and recovery will to a certain extent be in your hands. What you do in the twenty four hours each day is likely to determine the level of progress that you make over time.

I see patterns and similarities with clients that take a particular approach. They take ownership of their recovery and hold themselves accountable. They;

have a clear plan for their day/week

are committed, disciplined, determined, resilient and consistent

respond well to symptoms that come up

deal well with negative thoughts and stressful situations that arise

balance emotional, physical and mental energy expenditure

look for small, gradual improvements

find opportunities in their day for things that bring them joy.

I do not mince my words when I say that this is tough, probably the toughest challenge of your life, but the prize is certainly worth it. With the right approach day after day, week after week, within the right framework, then I honestly believe that significant improvement and even full recovery are not just possible, but probable.

Make every choice, your best choice!
